Shimla: A major accident has occurred in Kinnaur district of Himachal Pradesh and suddenly a large part of a mountain collapsed on National Highway-5 in Nigulseri (Landslide in Kinnaur), in the grip of Himachal Roadways. Many vehicles including buses arrived. This is the second major landslide in Kinnaur in less than a month.
45 people feared trapped
Around 45 people are feared to be buried under the debris after the horrific landslide, who were on the Himachal Roadways bus. According to administrative information, the driver of the bus gave information from the accident site after the accident. The local administration team has started the rescue work, while the NDRF team has also been sent to the spot. However, stones are still falling at the site of the accident, which is making it difficult to start the relief work.
Haryana Roadways bus was going to Haridwar
Himachal Road Transport Corporation (HRTC) bus was going from Rekong Peo to Haridwar via Shimla. However, there is no official confirmation about the number of passengers in the bus. According to reports, 40-45 people were on the bus. Several people are feared trapped in the landslide on National Highway 5 near Nigulsari, 61 km from Kinnaur’s district headquarters Rekong Peo.
NDRF called for relief and rescue
Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur told reporters in Shimla that he has directed the Kinnaur administration to expedite the relief and rescue operations. He said the exact number of casualties in the landslide was not yet known. In view of the seriousness of the situation, NDRF (National Disaster Response Force) has been called to rescue the people.
